Civil Engineering (Bahcesehir Cyprus University - Northern Cyprus)
Degree: Bachelor
Country: Northern Cyprus
Civil Engineering is one of the oldest engineering branches that has served to the development of civilizations throughout the history. Designing and constructing sustainable living spaces that are functional, safe, resistant to natural hazards and compatible with the environment; selection of appropriate structural systems, construction materials, applications and construction methods; designing, planning and execution of projects; cost analyses and calculations; control and verification of project calculations and site applications according to the civil engineering standards and specifications are some of the tasks that civil engineers are in charge of carrying out.
Civil Engineering Department of Bahçeşehir Cyprus University aims to guide the students to adopt multi-faceted and solution-oriented thinking on the theoretical topics and applications in the fields of Structural Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Building Materials, Construction Management and Transportation Engineering, which are the main branches of Civil Engineering; to train them to be able to follow up science and technology and to improve themselves continuously while being civil engineers that serve to the society and that promote ethics in all engineering applications.
Civil Engineering undergraduate program curriculum includes courses on basic sciences and on the topics of all civil engineering branches with a total of 30 ECTS load per each academic semester. Basic science courses are concentrated mainly in the first two academic semesters in order to provide foundations for more complex civil engineering courses of each branch. After the completion of these courses, the students receive courses on Structural Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials, Construction Management and Transportation Engineering, which are the main branches of civil engineering.
These courses are designed to enable the students to receive latest information regarding these mentioned branches and to apply the information that they received on both theoretical and applied aspects, while training the students to gain skills like problem-solving, analyzing, designing, as well as project planning and execution. Beside these technical courses, Civil Engineering undergraduate program curriculum also includes general educational elective courses which encourages the students to improve their skills on other complementary aspects as well. In addition to these courses, civil engineering students are required to satisfy the requirements of a 30-days long summer internship in which they are expected to observe and learn applications in active civil engineering offices and construction sites.
